Basketball Recap: Greeley West Comes Up Short

Greeley West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were dealt a 95-40 loss at the hands of the Fossil Ridge SaberCats. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while the SaberCats are ranked 38th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fossil Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Donovan Banek, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Banek a new career-high in assists (four). Drake Walker was another key player, going 8 of 12 on his way to 16 points.

Greeley West's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Fossil Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Greeley West will be playing at home against Loveland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Loveland has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 203 points over their last three games. As for Fossil Ridge, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-56 loss against Overland on the 18th.
