Basketball Recap: Shady Spring Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Shady Spring had to endure a 13-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 win over the Independence Patriots on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Tigers: when they faced off against the Patriots two weeks ago, they had to take a 46-45 defeat.

Despite the loss, Independence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lacey Goodson posted 22 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals. That was a full 57.9% of Independence's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Harmony Mills, who scored eight points along with five boards and three steals.

Shady Spring's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-12. As for Independence, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Shady Spring will face off against Greenbrier West at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Independence, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-39 defeat against South Charleston on the 1st.
