Softball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Takes a Loss

If Albuquerque Academy was riding high fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Manzano on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chargers fell just short of the Bernalillo Spartans by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Chargers in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost five in a row.

Melissa Purcella was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Albuquerque Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Bernalillo, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-10.

Coincidentally, Albuquerque Academy and Bernalillo will both be playing Valley the next time they take the field. The Spartans will head out to face the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Chargers will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
