Baseball Recap: Dakota Ridge Comes Up Short

Dakota Ridge fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Evergreen on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 6-5.

Ben Bixby was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kellen Behrendsen and Breckin Maynes stepped up to the plate in a big way. Behrendsen went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Maynes went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was Maynes' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Barrett, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Dakota Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Evergreen, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dakota Ridge will head out to face off against Wheat Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Farmers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.71 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Evergreen, they will head out on the road to square off against Standley Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
