League recap: Mercyhurst Prep edges Mercer in nail biter

District 10 Region 2 A recap Oct. 16, 2012

Mercyhurst Prep and Mercer played the most hotly contested game in District 10 Region 2 A this week, with Mercyhurst Prep eventually emerging with a 28-26 victory. Cornelius Barclay ran for 101 yards and caught two passes for 23 yards in the win.

The Lakers led the league in scoring this week after putting up 28 points on the Mustangs. Barclay in the win.

Cambridge Springs's dynamic duo of Devin Walker and Kristofer Silbaugh proved tough for Fort LeBoeuf to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Walker threw for 169 yards and one touchdown and Silbaugh had 100 yards receiving. Colton Noble helped Cambridge Springs' passing attack out by catching four balls for 30 yards.

Alex Johnson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 103 yards on six carries as Eisenhower fell to the Bison. Teammate John Pascuzzi added to the ground attack by rushing for 49 yards.

Ryan Connor made the biggest impact on defense this week as Mercyhurst Prep bested Mercer. The 5-foot-11 senior pulled down two interceptions.

6-foot-1 quarterback Chad Eisenhooth of Cochranton is the league leader in passing yards this season with 864. He has also thrown 10 touchdowns. On the ground, Matt Morgan's team's Barclay has rushed for 1135 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nathan O'Brien. The Eisenhower star has 21 catches for 463 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Union City takes on the Knights. As it stands, the Bears are in fourth, while Eisenhower is in second.
