Basketball Game Preview: Westbrook Blue Blazes vs. Mt. Ararat Eagles

Westbrook is 2-8 against Mt. Ararat since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Westbrook Blue Blazes will challenge the Mt. Ararat Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Westbrook lost to Oxford Hills on the road by a 69-55 margin. While losing is never fun, the Blue Blazes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Vikings are ranked seventh).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kylie Young, who posted ten points along with seven boards and three steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (three). Lyla Dunphe was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Meanwhile, Mt. Ararat waltzed into their match on Friday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They enjoyed a cozy 56-37 victory over the Dragons.

Mt. Ararat's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points over those games. As for Westbrook, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.

Westbrook came up short against Mt. Ararat in their previous meeting back in January, falling 67-54. Can Westbrook avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
