Basketball Recap: Tuba City Comes Up Short

After flying high against Window Rock last Thursday, Tuba City came back down to earth. The Tuba City Warriors were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 56-55 to the Page Sand Devils. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-44 back in December of 2024.

Tuba City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justice Nez, who posted 17 points. Nez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Eriana Begay was another key player, going 7 of 16 on her way to 19 points.

Page was led to victory by LeLaura Yazzie and Leikara Yazzie. LeLaura almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds, while Leikara almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. That's the most points LeLaura has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tayla Franklin, who scored ten points.

Tuba City's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Page, their record is now 16-8.

Tuba City will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Window Rock at 6:00 p.m. Tuba City is facing Window Rock at the right time seeing as Window Rock is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. Page does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
