Baseball Game Preview: Bartlett Golden Bears vs. Chugiak Mustangs

Bartlett is 1-6 against Chugiak since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Golden Bears will face off against the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m.

Bartlett is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They lost 10-0 to South Anchorage.

Meanwhile, Chugiak faced Dimond in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Lynx 7-6. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Lynx recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Owen Dockstader spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Blake Yawit was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Chugiak is 2-1 when Yawit posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-8 otherwise. Cole Lux was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Chugiak's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bartlett, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.

Bartlett might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Chugiak in their previous meeting on Friday. Can the Golden Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
