The Abbeville Panthers will square off against the Ware Shoals Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Abbeville has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Abbeville is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Dixie just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 22-6 to the Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered since March 17th.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ware Shoals). Everything went their way against McCormick on Tuesday as they made off with a 27-1 win. Winning may never get old, but the Hornets sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Sarah Vinson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Bella Davis was incredible, firing off three home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Selena Timms, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Ware Shoals lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Abbeville now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Ware Shoals, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Everything went Abbeville's way against Ware Shoals in their previous meeting back in March, as Abbeville made off with a 17-7 victory. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
