Softball Recap: Jefferson Raiders vs. White River Hornets
Jefferson had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 5-8 to make it five. They fell just short of the White River Hornets by a score of 11-10. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-3 back in March.
Julia Mears was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Lange, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
As for White River, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games.
On White River's side, Laken Elvig made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Elvig has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-4. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Harris, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Alexa Hansen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Jefferson will face off against rival Auburn Mountainview at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, White River is set to challenge their familiar foe Federal Way at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
