Basketball Recap: Moberly Comes Up Short

If Moberly was feeling good fresh off their 66-42 takedown of Hannibal last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Moberly Spartans took a 75-57 bruising from the Mexico Bulldogs on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 69th).

Despite the defeat, Moberly saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Collin Knox went 9 for 15 en route to 19 points and seven boards. That's the most points Knox has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mason Bivins, who had 12 points and five assists.

Moberly's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Mexico, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Moberly will be playing in front of their home fans against Kirksville at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Moberly is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season. Mexico has already played their next game (against Quincy Notre Dame), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
