Basketball Recap: Central Academy Takes a Loss

Central Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss. They were dealt a 75-35 defeat at the hands of the Monroe Redhawks. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 641st, while the Redhawks are ranked 189th).

Monroe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryson Simpkins, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 16 points. Another player making a difference was Joey Shearin, who posted nine points and five boards.

Central Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-22. As for Monroe, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Coming up, Central Academy will head out on the road to face off against Parkwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Monroe, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Union Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
