Basketball Recap: Maple Mountain Takes a Loss

Maple Mountain lost against Springville back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Springville Red Devils. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Red Devils are ranked 17th).

Springville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamyn Sondrup, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Sondrup a new career-high in blocks (seven). Another player making a difference was Andrew Miller, who went 8 for 13 en route to 20 points and seven rebounds.

Maple Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Springville, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6.

Maple Mountain will host Salem Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salem Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.8 points per game this season. As for Springville, they will venture away from home to challenge Spanish Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Springville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 games -- so hopefully Spanish Fork likes a good challenge.
