Softball Game Preview: Penfield Patriots vs. Langley Saxons

The Penfield Patriots will challenge the Langley Saxons at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Penfield is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Cheraw on Monday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 15-1 win. Considering the Patriots' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Penfield let Megan Clark and Addison Young run wild. Clark scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Young got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Clark is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least two every time she's taken the field this season. Stephanie Coughlin was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Penfield hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Langley and University finished up their matchup with a 2-2 draw on Tuesday.

Penfield's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. Langley's draw makes their record 7-5-1 this season.

Penfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Patriots have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game.
