Baseball Recap: Sycamore Comes Up Short

Sycamore blew Harlem out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Harlem got their revenge. The Spartans fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 5-3. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Sycamore got a good showing from Devin Shaulis, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Shaulis also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Spartans are 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Sycamore saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Macdonald, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Trenton Meisch also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Sycamore now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Harlem, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sycamore will challenge Belvidere at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bucs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.86 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Harlem, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westmont at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
