Hononegah has gone a perfect 10-0 against Jefferson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Indians will challenge the J-Hawks at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Hononegah put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. They blew past Guilford 18-0. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
Emma Tapia looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hononegah let Peyton Klikno and Aislyn Palmer run wild. Klikno got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Palmer got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave Palmer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mali McMaster, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Hononegah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .889. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Jefferson hadn't done well against Rockford Auburn recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The J-Hawks walked away with a 10-5 win over the Knights. The victory was nothing new for the J-Hawks as they're now sitting on three straight.
Hononegah's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, their record now sits at 9-12.
Everything went Hononegah's way against Jefferson in their previous meeting back in April, as Hononegah made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
