Basketball Recap: Yuma Catholic Drops Season-High Score on Sabino

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yuma Catholic). They walked away with a 76-65 victory over the Sabino Sabercats on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Shamrocks who have now won six contests in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Yuma Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lucky Patane, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 16 points in addition to six boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Fernando Vazquez Lima, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Yuma Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Several Sabercats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caden Watkins, who posted 16 points and three steals. Watkins is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Curtis, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 14 points.

Yuma Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for Sabino, they moved to 9-4 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Yuma Catholic will venture away from home to challenge Parker at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Yuma Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 203 points over their last three matches. As for Sabino, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 81-44 victory against Amphitheater on the 8th.
