Basketball Recap: Apollo Takes a Loss

If Apollo was feeling good fresh off their 55-32 takedown of West Point last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Apollo Hawks were beaten by the Valley Vista Monsoon 67-21 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Monsoon are ranked eighth).

Apollo lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Murryah Crump, who posted seven points. She is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Meliyah Morning, who had six points.

Valley Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jada Wilson led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Wilson has posted since back in December of 2024. Kinsey Murray was another key player, putting up 15 points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Apollo now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Valley Vista, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-7.

Apollo has already played their next game, a 56-20 victory against Tolleson on the 7th. As for Valley Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 70-24 win against West Point on the 7th.
