Softball Game Preview: Marshfield Pirates vs. Glide Wildcats

The Marshfield Pirates will face off against the Glide Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marshfield has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with ten straight losses, while Glide will come in with three straight victories.

Marshfield couldn't beat Marist on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Pirates came up short against the Spartans, falling 18-8.

Meanwhile, Glide got the win against Siuslaw on Friday by a conclusive 14-1. Considering the Wildcats have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ella Weber made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Peyton Geiger and Brionna Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Geiger went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Miller went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave Miller a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Moyers, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Glide was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive games.

Marshfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Glide, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.

Everything went Marshfield's way against Glide when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Marshfield made off with a 10-3 victory. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
