Baseball Recap: Miramonte Comes Up Short

If Miramonte was feeling good fresh off their 9-1 takedown of Concord last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Matadors fell just short of the Las Lomas Knights by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. The Matadors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Miramonte saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Hughes, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases. Hughes is becoming a predictor of the Matadors' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 5-15 when he doesn't). Another was Preston Rguem, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

Miramonte has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for Las Lomas, their record is now 12-10-1.

While Miramonte had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
