Basketball Recap: Maret Comes Up Short

Maret and Sidwell Friends squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Maret had to settle for second. They came up short against the Sidwell Friends Quakers, falling 72-51. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Quakers this season, with their most recent loss being a 71-50 defeat back in February.

Loss or not, Maret got some senior leadership from London Liley and Kennedy Austin. Liley posted 27 points, while Austin almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. The matchup was Liley's tenth in a row with at least 16 points.

Sidwell Friends' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Genesis Schneeberg, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine boards. Schneeberg is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Yoon, who shot 67% from the field on her way to 17 points.

Maret's defeat dropped their record down to 20-10. As for Sidwell Friends, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 26-3.

Maret does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sidwell Friends, they have already played their next game, a 72-44 win against St. John's on the 2nd.
