Basketball Recap: Qualib Ghallab's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Chaparral over Boulder City

Chaparral was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 78-63 bruising from the Boulder City Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cowboys of the 57-39 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2020.

Chaparral lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Qualib Ghallab, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Ghallab has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 43 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Rayshawn Armstead, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Chaparral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Boulder City had a senior duo take command as Luke Wright went 10 for 20 on his way to 26 points and Sean Pendleton dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave Pendleton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Walker, who posted 13 points and six boards.

Chaparral now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Boulder City, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Chaparral will challenge Western at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chaparral knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Western likes a good challenge. As for Boulder City, they will face off against Sports Leadership & Management at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Boulder City is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
