Volleyball Game Preview: Rio Mesa Spartans vs. Ventura Cougars

Rio Mesa is 0-10 against Ventura since September of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Spartans will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Rio Mesa lost 3-0 to Buena on Thursday.

Rio Mesa was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-12, 25-22.

Meanwhile, Ventura suffered their biggest defeat since August 12th on Thursday. They came up short against San Marcos, falling 3-0. The shutout was out of character for the Cougars seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in August.

Ventura took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-10, 25-16, 25-18.

Ventura's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Rio Mesa, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-21.

Rio Mesa might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Ventura in their previous matchup back in September. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
