Basketball Recap: Jaylin Reed Key Part of a Team Effort in Spartans Win

There's no place like home for Pinole Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They snuck past the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins with a 57-51 victory on Wednesday. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 94-49 win the Bruins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Pinole Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylin Reed, who posted 17 points and seven boards. The game was Reed's third in a row with at least ten points. De'Ari Simmons was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven assists.

Pinole Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Pinole Valley's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for St. Patrick-St. Vincent, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-7 record.

Pinole Valley and St. Patrick-St. Vincent could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Pinole Valley will challenge Salesian College Preparatory at 7:00 p.m. on Friday down 586 places (605 vs. 19). Similarly, St. Patrick-St. Vincent (ranked 392nd) will meet Saint Mary's (ranked 105th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
