Football Recap: Argyle Takes Down Cooper in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Argyle had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 77-35 victory over the Cooper Cougars. The Eagles' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

A big part of Argyle's win came down to the chemistry between Maguire Gasperson and his top target Julian Caldwell. Gasperson threw for 356 yards and six TDs while completing 86.4% of his passes while Caldwell picked up 181 receiving yards and four touchdowns. That's the most receiving touchdowns Caldwell has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Watson Bell, who gained 84 total yards and a touchdown.

Argyle didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nathaniel Bruce and Landon Howald. Argyle got some further help from Chase Bagley: he picked up two sacks and made 11 total tackles (5.0 for loss).

The victory (which was Argyle's 11th in a row) raised their record to 11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.8 points over those games. As for Cooper, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Argyle will take on Walnut Grove at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,033 yards in their previous games. Cooper does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
