Football Game Preview: Irmo Yellow Jackets vs. Northwestern Trojans

Irmo is on a 15-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Northwestern is on a 11-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Irmo Yellow Jackets will host the Northwestern Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. That match will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Aaron (Aj) Brand Jr. and Finley Polk.

Irmo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They managed a 29-25 win over White Knoll.

It was another big night for Brand Jr., who rushed for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 91 yards and one touchdown while completing 77.8% of his passes. His rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 107 rushing yards.

Meanwhile, Northwestern faced Gaffney in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Northwestern enjoyed a cozy 58-40 victory over Gaffney.

Irmo better keep an eye on Polk. He was instrumental in Northwestern's win, throwing for 339 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 94 yards and one touchdown. That's the most passing touchdowns Polk has posted since back in September. Kameron Vance was another key player, picking up 168 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Irmo's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Northwestern, their victory bumped their record up to 13-0.

Irmo took a serious blow against Northwestern in their previous matchup back in September of 2015, falling 59-0. Can Irmo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
