Baseball Recap: Chaffey Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Chaffey came into Wednesday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Diamond Ranch Panthers on Wednesday. The Tigers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 22nd.

Jacob Venegas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ernesto Hernandez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Chaffey's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Emilio Alcala, who scored three runs while going 1-for-4.

Chaffey's victory bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Diamond Ranch, they dropped their record down to 3-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Chaffey will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
