Basketball Game Recap: Highland Tech Rams vs. Cherryville Ironmen

If Cherryville wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Highland Tech, they should've done a better job of containing Elijah Sherrill. The Highland Tech Rams took down the Cherryville Ironmen 52-35 on Tuesday thanks in part to Sherrill, who went 7 for 16 en route to 16 points and eight assists. He has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 19 times he's played.

When it comes to explaining why Cherryville lost, don't look at Andron Patterson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards. What's more, Patterson also racked up three steals, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

Highland Tech's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-8. As for Cherryville, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland Tech will host Bessemer City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bessemer City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 72.4 points per game this season. As for Cherryville, they will welcome Piedmont Community Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Piedmont Community Charter knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Cherryville likes a good challenge.
