Baseball Recap: Hugo Takes a Loss

Hugo lost against Valliant back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Buffaloes lost 11-3 to the Bulldogs. The Buffaloes' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.

Jayka Santillan put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Hugo's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 4-2 (and 5-14 when he doesn't). Santillan was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Santillan wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maliki Gillean, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Hugo's loss dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Valliant, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season.

While Hugo had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
