Softball Game Preview: Unicoi County Blue Devils vs. Dobyns-Bennett Indians

The Unicoi County Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Dobyns-Bennett Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Unicoi County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Dobyns-Bennett's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Unicoi County will head out to face Dobyns-Bennett after giving up their first home loss of the season on Monday. The Blue Devils fell just short of West Ridge by a score of 1-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Blue Devils were not able to get on the board.

Lela Byrd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dobyns-Bennett). They put the hurt on Sullivan East with a sharp 11-0 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won eight in a row.

Dobyns-Bennett's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Unicoi County, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.

Unicoi County beat Dobyns-Bennett 11-7 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
