League recap: Leeds rolls against Central of Coosa County

3A Region 4 recap October 22, 2013

Leeds took down Central of Coosa County 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

The Green Wave led 3A Region 4 in scoring this week by notching 49 points on the Cougars.

Daniel Phillips was a key player and the best on defense this week as Trinity Presbyterian defeated Tarrant. The 6-foot-2 senior recorded 1 fumble.

Griffin Slater was the best running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 68 yards as the Wildcats lost to Leeds. Teammate Hunter Johnson added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.

On the heels of Andrew Hammond and Rod Whetstone, Richard Bell's team has had great success on offense. Hammond leads the league in passing with 658 yards, while Whetstone has rushed for 314 yards this season. Trinity Presbyterian's Robert Adams leads the league in receiving yards with 622 on 47 catches.

Next week's game between the Cougars and Randy Ragsdale's team will feature an aerial matchup as Hammond tests his arm against Trace Johnston's defensive ability.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Central of Coosa County takes on the Wildcats. The Cougars are currently in sixth, while Trinity Presbyterian is in first.

There should be lots of points scored when Central of Coosa County and the Wildcats face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Cougars comes in having scored 74 this season, while Trinity Presbyterian has scored 228. Central of Coosa County scored 0 points last week as it fell to Keith Etheredge's team.

Midfield made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,067 from 5,853. The improvement was the result of a 34-0 victory over Comer last week.
