Baseball Game Preview: Gates County Red Barons vs. Northeastern Eagles

The Gates County Red Barons will head out on the road to challenge the Northeastern Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Gates County came up short against Perquimans on Wednesday, falling 14-2. The Red Barons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gates County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lyric Pittman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Northeastern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 13-3 to Currituck County.

Northeastern's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Gates County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.

Everything went Gates County's way against Northeastern in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Gates County made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Barons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
