After both having extra time off, the Broomfield Eagles and the Overland Trailblazers will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.
Broomfield's tournament run continued when they took on Arapahoe last Saturday. Broomfield fell to Arapahoe 70-65.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Will Lapham, who posted 13 points. Grant Schmidt was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 14 points.
Meanwhile, Overland fought the good fight in their overtime game against Liberty last Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 70-69 to the Lions. The Trailblazers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Defeat or not, Overland got some senior leadership from Siraaj Ali and Isreal Littleton. Ali went 13 of 24 en route to 30 points, while Littleton went 8 of 11 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mehki Mcneal, who put up eight points.
Broomfield has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Overland, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Broomfield hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62.8 points per game. However, it's not like Overland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 69.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Broomfield didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Overland in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 75-70 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Littleton, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds.
