Baseball Recap: Wayland Has No Trouble Against Thornapple Kellogg

Wayland won the last time they faced Thornapple Kellogg and things went their way on Monday too. The Wildcats blew past the Trojans 10-4. Considering the Wildcats have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Wayland got a great performance from Will Lodenstein as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

At the plate, Bredan Byrne was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Wayland is undefeated when Byrne posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Trent Sikkema was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The victory made it two in a row for Wayland and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Thornapple Kellogg, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Wayland will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Trojans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
