Soccer Game Preview: Hillcrest vs. Layton Christian Academy

The Hillcrest Huskies will venture away from home to challenge the Layton Christian Academy Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hillcrest had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the three-goal drubbing they dealt Tooele on Tuesday. The Huskies' defense stepped up to hand the Buffaloes a 3-0 shutout.

Jesus Khalil, who's played more minutes than anyone else on the Hillcrest squad sat out for Tuesday's contest. With Khalil sidelined, Hillcrest had to make some big changes to the lineup. James Jensen played for 80 minutes having averaged 42.2 this season and Hunter Hinckley got 80 vs. an average of 52.8.

Meanwhile, Layton Christian Academy came tearing into Friday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 goals), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Spartans. That's two games straight that Layton Christian Academy have won by just one goal.

The win got Hillcrest back to even at 5-5. As for Layton Christian Academy, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.
