Softball Recap: Upperman Triumphs

Upperman came out on top against Cannon County on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Bees walked away with a 7-3 win over the Lions. This was a revenge game for the Bees: when they faced off against the Lions back in March, they had to take a 9-7 loss.

Leah Hensley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Maddie Tinch was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Lyza Wilken was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Upperman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cannon County only posted a batting average of .200.

Upperman's victory bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Cannon County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

Upperman will take on DeKalb County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bees surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cannon County, they will challenge York Institute at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.69 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
