Desert Vista and Queen Creek are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Thunder will head out to challenge the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Desert Vista took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Basha, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Thunder skirted past the Bears 4-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 24, 2019, but that streak is no more.
Thailee Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Mckenzie Leitgen was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Briski, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Queen Creek waltzed into their game on Saturday with 15 straight wins... but they left with 16. They had just enough and edged out the Pumas 5-3.
Alexis Mendez looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kayla Porter, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alessia Velazquez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Queen Creek pushed their record up to 25-5 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Vista, their record now sits at 25-6.
Desert Vista came out on top in a nail-biter against Queen Creek when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Thunder repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
