The top games had moments of promise but the higher ranked team prevailed in two of the three showdowns. No. 1 De La Salle beat No. 4 Saint Francis in a battle of the Bay Area's best, and Saint Francis moved up a spot by default as previous No. 2 St. Mary's was stunned by rival Central Catholic. Folsom inched up a spot to No. 2 after dispatching previous No. 7 Oakdale.

Kairee Robinson ran for 142 yads and two scores. De La Salle extended its unbeaten streak to 283 games against Northern California schools since 1992 (north of Fresno). The Spartans seek their 26th consecutive section championship and 12th consecutive CIF State final. De La Salle has gone 445-26-3 since 1980.

Update: Top ranked by The Sacramento Bee, the Bulldogs raced past previous No. 7 Oakdale 48-29 in a battle of section powers.
Kaiden Bennett passed for 288 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 91 and another.
Joe Ngata had 179 yards receiving. Sacramento, the next opponent, beat Folsom 32-27 last season. Folsom has won five section and two CIF State titles this decade with two 14-0 teams losing to De La Salle in NorCal title games.

Will Myers each scored rushing touchdowns. The loss was to Utah power Timpview 30-13 in a showcase game in Mission Viejo a week after beating state-ranked Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 22-12. Del Oro's league includes Folsom, Granite Bay, Oak Ridge and Rocklin. The Golden Eagles won the 2015 CIF State Division 2-AA title and reached the CIF State finals in 2016.

Dauson Booker rushed for 152 yards and a score. The defense held St. Mary's to its fewest points since De La Salle shut the Rams out in 2011. Central Catholic won CIF State titles in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Premier Murphy, who ran for 138 yards and three scores. Pittsburg had a game canceled due to poor air quality and extreme heat and lost its opener to national power Centennial 63-21, playing short handed. This is the program that last beat De La Salle, in the 1991 North Coast Section title game.
