Football Recap: Maypearl Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Maypearl can now relate to. They came up short against the Pottsboro Cardinals on Thursday, falling 56-35. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 719th, while the Cardinals are ranked 150th).

When it comes to explaining why Maypearl lost, don't look at Andrew Martinez. Despite the final result, he rushed for 53 yards and three touchdowns.

Leading Pottsboro to victory were Zavier Brady and Carson Nix. Brady picked up 139 receiving yards and one score, while Nix rushed for 42 yards and a pair of TDs. Brady was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 50 yards.

Maypearl's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Pottsboro, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-1.

Maypearl does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pottsboro, they will face off against Malakoff at 7:00 p.m. on the 21st.
