Softball Recap: May River Picks Up Seventh Straight Win on the Road

May River had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Colleton County Cougars 11-3 on Wednesday. The Sharks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Caydon Swofford looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Addison Roppelt was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Allie Belcher, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.

May River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colleton County only posted a batting average of .241.

May River's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Colleton County, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. May River will host Bishop England at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Battling Bishops have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.2 runs per game on average), something the Sharks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Colleton County, they will face off against Beaufort at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
