Sahuarita's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Salpointe Catholic on Thursday. The Mustangs blew past Walden Grove 16-2. Considering the Mustangs have won 18 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayd Villa made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Villa was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eliana Romero, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brenna Figueroa, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Sahuarita always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walden Grove only posted an OBP of .211.
Sahuarita's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Amphitheater, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
Amphitheater might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Sahuarita when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
