Basketball Recap: Unicoi County Find Success

Unicoi County posted their closest win since December 20, 2023 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Winter Haven Blue Devils 59-57. Given Unicoi County's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 133rd in Tennessee, while Winter Haven is ranked 474th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Unicoi County found their leader in sophomore Kaden Cutlip, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points. Garrett Sellars was another key player, putting up nine points.

Winter Haven lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gavin Hall, who went 6 for 11 en route to 14 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Troy Boswell Jr, who posted 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

The win snapped Unicoi County's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-8 record. As for Winter Haven, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

Unicoi County has already played their next matchup (against Volunteer), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Winter Haven will face off against Santa Fe Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Winter Haven is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.
