Preview: Northwest Classen Knights vs. Putnam City Pirates
Northwest Classen has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Putnam City Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northwest Classen comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Northwest Classen fell victim to Ponca City's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Wildcats, falling 56-0. While losing is never fun, Northwest Classen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Ponca City is ranked 92nd).
Meanwhile, Putnam City was beaten by Choctaw 65-20 on Friday.
Although Putnam City took the loss, they still got scores from Ladarren Shoals, Marqucio Woody, and Judson Keefer.
Northwest Classen's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 5.0 points per game. As for Putnam City, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Northwest Classen was dealt a bruising 38-6 defeat at the hands of Putnam City in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Northwest Classen, Bryce Smith (who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
