Powell is a perfect 10-0 against Oak Ridge since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Panthers will face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. The last four games Powell has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Powell's victory against Hardin Valley Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Hawks 2-1. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.
Powell got a great performance from Emily Jeffers as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Jeffers has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Powell's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jaylan Heatherly, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Another was Emersyn Mayes, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Oak Ridge didn't have quite enough to beat West on Tuesday and fell 8-7. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Rebels: they've now lost seven in a row.
Gloria Rust made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Lindsay Faulkner also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Powell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-17.
Oak Ridge's pitching crew better be locked in on Wednesday. Powell hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. It's a different story for Oak Ridge, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Powell in the park?
Everything went Powell's way against Oak Ridge in their previous meeting back in March, as Powell made off with an 18-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
