Basketball Game Preview: Cedar Springs Red Hawks vs. Wyoming Wolves

Cedar Springs hasn't had much luck against Wyoming recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cedar Springs Red Hawks will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Wyoming Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Cedar Springs will head into Tuesday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 20-point drubbing they dealt Big Rapids on Tuesday. Cedar Springs put the hurt on Big Rapids with a sharp 64-44 win. The Red Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wyoming). They claimed a resounding 81-31 victory over Orchard View. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Cardinals are ranked 610th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win (which was Wyoming's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.5 points per game. As for Cedar Springs, their victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

Cedar Springs couldn't quite finish off Wyoming in their previous meeting back in February of 2016 and fell 52-50. Can Cedar Springs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
