Softball Game Preview: Greene Central Rams vs. West Craven Eagles

Greene Central hasn't had much luck against West Craven recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Rams will square off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Greene Central has given up an average of 15.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Greene Central is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 39th straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Southside, falling 11-4.

Greene Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Baggett, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Shelby McKeel also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Craven). Everything went their way against Greene Central on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won nine in a row.

Riley Dixon made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, West Craven got a massive performance out of Makayla Gibson, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two runs gave Gibson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Izabella Sutton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

West Craven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

West Craven's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Greene Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-18.

Greene Central might still be hurting after the 19-0 loss they got from West Craven in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
