Volleyball Recap: Point Loma Beats Rancho Bernardo for Their Fifth Straight Victory + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Point Loma had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Rancho Bernardo Broncos 3-2. The victory was nothing new for the Pointers as they're now sitting on five straight.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Point Loma who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 21-25, 17-15.

Leading Point Loma to victory were Olivia Karvelis and Reece Thomas. Karvelis had 18 digs and six assists, while Thomas had 12 digs and three aces. Karvelis is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 14 games she's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Point Loma was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in five consecutive matches.

Point Loma's win bumped their record up to 18-11. As for Rancho Bernardo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-18 record this season.

Point Loma will head out on the road to challenge Academy of Our Lady of Peace at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Rancho Bernardo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
