Volleyball Recap: Freedom Comes Up Short

After flying high against West Caldwell last Wednesday, Freedom came back down to earth. The Patriots took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wilkes Central Eagles on Wednesday. The Patriots have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

The final score came out to 25-21, 13-25, 25-21, 25-14.

When it comes to explaining why Freedom lost, don't look at Josie Morgan. Despite the final result, she had 11 digs and two aces. Morgan is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last six games she's played. Kaitlyn Hagmann also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Freedom's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Wilkes Central, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5.

Freedom and Wilkes Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Patriots will take on Watauga at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (472 vs. 10). Meanwhile, Wilkes Central (ranked 401st) will meet Ashe County (ranked 41st) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
