Dunlap is 2-8 against Washington since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Eagles will head out to face off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Dunlap 2.5, Washington 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Washington will be up against a hot Dunlap team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Eagles came out on top against Galesburg by a score of 9-4 on Friday.
Jackson Newton was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Jaxson Tresenriter also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Dunlap was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while Washington put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Springfield. The Panthers blew past the Senators 13-0. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Washington let Carter Prina and Hayden Hawksworth run wild. Prina went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Hawksworth went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Lawrence, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
Washington is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Dunlap, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
Both Dunlap and Washington just can't seem to miss. The Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dunlap couldn't quite get it done against Washington in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
