Baseball Game Preview: Memorial Mustangs vs. Heights Bulldogs

The Memorial Mustangs will head out to square off against the Heights Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 21 games.

On Friday, Memorial made easy work of Stratford and carried off a 9-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 13 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Heights, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Houston Math Science & Tech an 8-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the eighth game they've won by 6+ runs this season.

Jose Garcia and Ryan Soto did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Soto got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most RBI Garcia has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mateo Quintanilla, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Heights hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Houston Math Science & Tech struck out six times.

Memorial's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-3-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Heights, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season.

Memorial beat Heights 4-0 in their previous matchup back in February of 2019. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
